DISSIDENT ARTS - NEW MASSES MEDIA: Listen

Kaleidoscope

(Radio NOIR)
May 14, 2012
John Pietaro/Laurie Towers/Quincy Saul/Javier Hernandez-Miyares
This piece grew out of a series of patterns John Pietaro composed for xylophone but once Laurie Towers heard it and created a throbbing, revolving bass part, the piece took on a new life. The guitar soundscape of Javier Hernandez-Miyares was the glue to pull all of the rotating patterns together and Quincy Saul's almost Gershwinesque clarinet line (filled with clear Klezmer characteristics) completed this work, truly composed in unity. The title was as a result of the patterns phasing in and out, shape-shifting and morphing constantly.
